    RE: other trans options

Glad you told me this was here in IM, cause I really dont check the trans section of the site too often. Lots of good info, just need to get it condensed to 60V6 only info

#3. 96-00 Dakota 2.5L bellhousing: Connects all to any Jeep 2.5L L4. Because of it's GM 60 degree V6 inherited bolt pattern, also works with any Buick FWD V6 and supercharged V6, any Chevrolet 2.8/3.1/3.4 V6, any Cadillac 4.1/4.5/4.9 V8 and with a minor modification, any Olds Aurora DOHC V8 and Cadillac DOHC Northstar V8. Also bolts to any Isuzu 3.2\3.5 DOHC V6.
wouldnt trust that info, cause its wrong. olds aurora and northstar use their own bellhousing, not related to in any way a small gm pattern. they dont even use 6 bolts, only 4.

Well, perhaps thats part of the minor modification that is mentioned? I dont know anything about RWD transmissions and bellhousing adjustments so I can't really say. But it doesnt say they are the same there either.

Sharkey is right. The N* does use its own pattern.

I've been working on this for a while http://members.shaw.ca/betterthanyou...t_patterns.htm

No, Sharkey is only HALF right. The Northstar does indeed use only 4 bolt holes as opposed to the 60 degree motors using 6. HOWEVER (I put that in caps), out of the 4 bolt holes on the Northstar, 3 of them match the 60 degree pattern. The fourth (in the 3 o'clock position) does not and it requires that the bell be modded to move the bolt hole up about 1". This is why I specifically stated that the Dakota bellhousing requires a modification to fit.

Since the Canadians think I'm wrong on this (I'm not!), would the Canadians care to put up a 6 pack of Labatts to prove I'm wrong?

ok, i was wrong, i admit it. i have pulled tranny's from behind northstars before, never looked close to a small gm pattern.
however, i dont realy call it minor modification when you have to weld, minor modding is when you have to grind down or file an area. and it also looks like they have done some modding up around the top of the bellhousing for the starter (starter on a northstar is under the intake).

I agree, it is not a minor mod to weld up a bolt hole, but it is do-able. Which was my point. As for the starter mod, that is only required for the S10 or Camaro bellhousings. The Jeep and Dakota bells have enough clearance not to require this mod.

Greg, I never noticed you before, if I did, I wouldn't have had to go on the Jeep Forum to ask you a question, ha ha.
