  • What tranny?

I am trying to figure out what transmission I have in my '87 celebrity wagon with the 2.8. It is an automatic obviously but I am not sure if it is the 3 speed or the 4 speed. I know my '86 has the 4 speed so I would assume the '87 does too but I just wanted to check, thanks.

How do you not know if it is a 3 or 4 speed? It will say on the shift indicator.

    P R N D 2 1 Is a 3 speed
    P R N D 3 2 1 Is a 4 speed.

Well that is pretty damn easy, why didn't I think of that? Do you guys know if they offered different automatics with the Celebrity V6's in '87?

Do an online search. There is likely a review out there somewhere (or Kelly Blue Book) that tells the different options for that year and model.

They would have definitely offered a 3 speed and a 4speed. At the time i believe they were the TH120??? and the 4T60 (the E model came out in 92). Go to an autoparts store and look up the filter, usually they will give you your choices by the amount of bolts on the pan.

              th120??? um, no such thing.

they would have offered the th125c and 440-t4 (renamed 4t60 in 1990).
