  • Stuff That Works

Used a bottle of "Slick 50 Transmission Treatment", 2 days ago. Sweet results! As good as it shifted before, with the "Ford" fluid, it is even tighter now. Don't know about long term results, but I have never heard any bad reviews about Slick 50 products.

I don't use it in my engine, it is fine, but the tranny has had issues.

I give it a "Thumbs Up".

    Just my opinion.

    RE: Stuff That Works

what was your tranny doing??? slipping or sloppy shifts by chance???

most additives are designed with solvents to swell hard seals. temporary fix at best. over some time it will cause the seals to get to soft and blow out, or it will end up disolving some crud inside the tranny and jam up the valve body. as a transmission tech, i know this stuff is very short term and will not hold up in the long run.

about the only additive i use is seafoam.

      nothing beats general maintenance.

        Tranny is better than perfect!

Slick 50 is not an additive. It is a lubricant. Doesn't seal anything. But, after 3 rebuilds, and new hard parts, it shifts like a dream! Ford fluid, hardened FD pin, extra clutch and pressure spring, shimmed acumulator,WOT chipped.

I never include the tranny as a Mod. Maybe I should. I abuse them too much I guess. Oh well.

I've notice Decron IV lets the trans slip a little. II/III not so much. Type F lets it slam gears..as its a high friction fluid. Im using the F stuff on my rebuilt 3t40 with the reds. I'll see how it fairs to 300+ftlbs of tq.

I thought the slic 50 stuff is like octane cleaner...like it has Diesel or Kerosine to clean parts..and a solvent to film moving parts like Z-max does. BTW..I never recomend Z-max. It does create a ceramic like film on the bearings..but it pushes the oil away and causes the film to "sand" the bearing down.

PTFE solids, teflon. i think thats the big slick 50 thing, dad always puts a bottle in when he does his oil change. i like good old old fashioned meant to be there fluids.

slick 50 is an additive. you ADD it to your regular fluids. Nothing more than snake oil IMO. Its probably just the Type F fluid thats making you think it helps. I would not put that stuff in any vehicle I cared about. Nothing is a cure-all in a bottle.
