    I have a strange problem ,, shifter is on column and moves in all positions ,, but tranny feels like its in park..


    removed right side axle to push car in garage
    Rebuild on weekend ... call junk yard Monday come and get er.

    Might be the shift cable. Look at the trasmisison where the shifter cable attaches, and have someone move the column shifter to see if the linkage is moving or not. If you are lucky, maybe it just came unbolted.

      wish it was the cable but not ,,I'm thinking of buying atsg book to see how hard it looks to rebuild i already have the tranny pulled sitting on garage floor.

        Before you go tearing into the trans, flip it over, remove the pan and see if the shift mechanism (rod that engages the parking pawl) is stuck worn out or broken. You might be able to repair this instead of overhaul.

          Prior to its not moving forwards or backwards we did have clicking in reverse ,, pan removal shows the new fluid full of metal powder like junk.

              I Don?t have the book yet ,, question any idea if its safe to remove diff cover nose for inspection of gears or would I be looking for a disaster ?

                It would be okay to remove the cover and check the final drive planet set, but I was refering to the main plantary gear set deeper inside. Curt
