  • Tranny GODS........PLease Help Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been told that there are three VSS reluctor rings available for a 4T60E tranny that came in a '99 GA se. According to my Vin#, mine works out to be an option code MN5, w/ 3:05 final-gear-ratio. This tranny shop that told me this says that it has one of three rings, a 29 tooth,30 tooth, or 31 tooth reluctor. I'm assuming since the tooth count is so close, the difference is stock tire size right?
Everone on the planet that deals in aftermarket PCMs and Programming says it's a 40 tooth set-up. I can't find one person who's ever seen the inside of a tranny from an OBDII car, that can verify this.
Is there anyone on our forum here who works in a tranny shop that can find out the specs, or even just a part no., for the reluctor ring from a '99 GA se. If you need my VIN# I will post it. Please let me know. I have been on the phone to nearly every dealership and tranny shop in the Cincy area, nobody can find any answers. I can understand why, because they don't deal with them, but you'd think someone at least would have a book with a part No.

Todd (tejohnson) might have an idea. I know he's seen the inside of his tranny, mainly because the insides ended up outside once! But I would check with him if you don't get any good responses from anyone here.

Thanks Brad, ........what would reeally be nice is if someone had one on the floor, or even on a lift, where you could pull the sensor and count the teeth. That's a lot to ask from somebody who ain't got nothing to gain by all the work. I've got a subscription to ALLDATA for that vehicle, and the blow-up schematics of the tranny don't show a damn thing about a reluctor, or exciter. The dealers say the same thing. It's got to be in there somewhere. My guess is it's probably integral to the output shaft, and it doesn't show.
