Is my tranny crapping out on me?

This morning while trying to head to work I noticed my speedometer wasnt working The car also felt a little sluggish, it would rev high but drive slow and would not shift into the next gear. I drove it around the block a few times but the problem stayed. The rpm's worked but speedometer wouldnt. Sometimes the car would shift into next gear but only after revving it real high. The minute it shifted the check engine light would come on. Do I need a tranny rebuild or is it something cheaper to fix?

did you check your tranny fluid? Could have a leak. If its automatic I'm thinking TCC?

Ok, I took the car to get fixed today and it turns out I had a faulty speed sensor? I'm no mechanic and I dont speak spanish but the guy was trying to explain to me that the speedometer not working made my car to have these symptoms I posted above. I didnt understand a word he said but he mentioned he replaced the speed sensor? parts and labor cost me $140 bucs. The car ran fine the whole day until coming home off the highway it just died. Feels like the car ran out of gas or something. It just shut off right in the middle of me driving. I tried starting it but it wont crank over. My car has 134K miles with no mods, I've had the car for half a year and dont know what previous owner has done. What gives????????

Well, that sucks.
Does it show any signs of life? Dash lights? Have you checked for trouble codes? When you try to start it does anything happen at all? (lights dim)
You're going to have to do a bit of troubleshooting. (Or have it towed back to the spanish guy and hire an interpreter.)

Coming home off the highway, and having it die.. sounds like what we beleive to be the TCC solenoid on my gf's car. Not comletely sure though, but it runs fine in the city (no dying/stalling).

it was the timing chain. Unfortunately the spanish guy was trying to tell me I was going to need a new one. I couldnt understand a word he was saying. I need to learn spanish. he showed me the car was cranking but the belt wasnt moving. The belt look horrible, it had cracks all through it. The tranny seems to be shifting good tho. The check engine light still come on and off. If I'm driving for a while it comes on. I wonder if its a sensor or such. The anti loc brake light stays on, its soo annoying . My brakes were done and is working fine, how do I get rid of it?

The ABS light comes on sometimes on our van.. don't know why they seem to be fine. Try unplugging your battery so the computer erases the codes from memory.. might help.
