  • Couple ???

Are the axles different between the auto and the manual? It looks like they would be, the drivers side at least looks like its a lot longer. Also, where does the VSS plug into on the 5 speed? I got this trans from a 1990 Grand Prix 3.1 5 speed. That should be the 284, correct?

    RE: Couple ???

Its a 282. The axles are different for the autos and manuals though the 4T60 shares one with the 284 if you don't use the adapter piece off the old manual one on the driver side.

Will the 282 work well with the 3.4 DOHC without any mods? If not I'll have to see if I cant return it, because I told the guy specifically what I wanted.

What do I have to do to get it to work in a Lumina? I can see that I'll need a new mount for it, since the mount for the auto is nothing even close to what this needs. Will I still be able to use all the linkages from a 5 speed Lumina for this trans? Cause I already have all that sitting at my moms.

So I hear .. do they change gears or "build it up" or slam it in stock?

Are their gear ratios on the 282 comparable to the 284?

Sorry if Im hijackin, but thought this info might be pretitent to goatman as well as others

So when I get a clutch for this, do I get one for a Lumina 3.4, or the GP 3.1? Also, how similar is the wiring between the 282 and 284? If its gunna be a huge pain in the ass to get this trans to work, I may just try and find a 284

                      You would get a 282 clutch. (GP 3.1) ..

                      For wiring, scroll thru this:

PS .. are you installing a neutral safety switch? I believe it might be required in some states, and IT IS for safety .. but I like to live on the wild side!

lol My VW Buggy is like that. I can park the car with the starter

I know a girl who had a VW bus. She stalled it and instead of starting it properly she used the starter to get across the intersection. By that time it was going fast enough the engine started again.
