Just had to brag, Finally got ANOTHER tranny for my beast ('81 Citation X-11). The tranny is out of a 85 fiero. Really wasnt planning on putting the tranny in right away (not having a license and all) but since theres a good chance of getting a decent job the beast has become a priority. So I started calling around to price out a clutch, Advance sez it would have to be ordered for $125 and it has a 1 year warr., OK well thats what I expected. Called AutoZone and they said they would have to order it and it would have a LIFETIME warr. for, get this $5.24!!! YES, FIVE DOLLARS AND TWENTY FOUR CENTS, NOT A TYPO!!! Naturally I jumped on that faster than a just released prisoner on a $2 hooker. Damn I love computer glitches!! Of course now the real fun begins cuz' I need to have the tranny swap done AND learn MS Excel & Orical by Monday!! Even more exciting will be the fact that my cars speedo is cable driven and the new tranny is set up on for an electric speedo so for at least a few weeks I wont know how fast I'm going and driving with no license!!!! I hope they got room for me under the jail!!!

Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performanceTags: None

Have you looked at the transmisison to see if it has provisions to mount the FWD shift cables from the Citation? I have a '86 Fiero 4-spd trans I am going to use in my '84 X-11, but it will require some work. The '85-'86 Fiero 4-spd cases used bolt-on shifter cable brackets, whereas the X-11 uses brackets cast into the case. If these are not present, you will need to either fab some brackets, or track down ones off a V6 4-spd Cavalier. I'm not sure if the later Cav getrag bolt-on cable brackets will work or not. I am not positive, but the shifter arm coming out of the transmisison might not be pointed the proper direction to use with the X-11 setup. I am using the X-11 shift arm/shaft in the Fiero case, so I didn't pay too much attention to this. You might be able to just swap out the electronic speedo sender in the trans for the cable-driven one. The gear on the differential is the same, except that early Citation trans used metal gears, and the Fiero will probably have a plastic gear.
What was the part number for the clutch at AZ? Are they actually going to give it to you for that price?

Yea, I know about the cable holder thingy being different, not real sure on how I'm going to tackle that yet. May try to bolt the holder on backwards, dunno until I get into the swap. Can I do without the holder (at least temp?) As far as the shifter arms, I read somewhere on a fiero site that you can bolt them on backwards and use them in a FWD app.
Thanks for the info on the speedo swap, will look into that. But not all Citations had metal speedo gears, in fact both the blown trannies have plastic gears.
The AZ clutch part # is 213777 and is for an '85 fiero 2.8 and yes, they actually gave it to me for that price!! Sweet, huh?
I know I shouldnt drive w/o a license but its been suspended for almost a year now but that hasnt stopped me. I've only been stopped twice (given a warning once and a ticket the other time but was given my license back) and I am working towards getting it back.Tuning a car is full of compromises. that's rad dude! That's not the first time i've seen/WITNESSED an AutoZone glitch. I went there one night to pick up some engine mounts, and i needed some wire for a project i was gonna do, needing red and black (i was low on both). So i grabbed one of the larger rolls of 12 guage (can't remember how long, the longest roll they had there) and exptected it to be pretty pricey, so i only got one of each. THe engine mounts were 14.99/piece, plus two rolls of wire, and a set of small gel-caps. I rang it all up and he said the total was 33.xx.....i was like uhhh, what? LOL.
Needless to say i have a SHITLOAD of wire now! It only rang up for $0.99 PER ROLL!
