  • 2 questions about the getrag 284

ok first question, where can i get axle seals , the dealer has discontinued them, and no parts stores can get them. second, what is the part number for the proper fluid for the tranny, i could have sworn it was synthetic syncromesh fluid, but once again the dealer cant find it, they need a part number. thanks

Maybe you should go to a different dealer But yeah the 'special' syncromesh that has been talk among many boards over the years is the Friction Modified Syncromesh #12377916

As for the axle shaft seals they are the standard press on type similar to the MG2 right? It should be this one #14092900 Although there is only one picture for the M27 and the listing and picture make it hard to look up. It lists that for both sides, the side that the housing for the intermediate shaft goes in and the drivers side where the axle shaft goes inside the transmission. I can still order them.

nah the dealer i go to is very good, probably because i work there. lol. no, they just couldnt find the fluid, they checked for awhile. and there is nothing they can do about the seals. as for what other seals are the same, i dont know. the one local machine shop said they could try and match one up if i took it out and gave it to them so they could mic. it up, so if anybody has dimensions that would be great. but i dont want to ruin a seal if it cant be replaced. thanks

the axle seal may be the same as a th125. i know for sure the my muncie 4 spd, getrag 282 used them, and i know for a fact that the passenger side is the same thing on the 440t4, 4t60e, 4t65e. gm seems to like to use the same axle seal in lots of aplications, may wanna check that out. you will likly have to pull your seal out to match it up, and usualy you end up wrecking the seal when you do that.

          good luck.
