  • Getrag 284 into '90 TGP, have some questions!

    In a few weeks I will be starting to install a 284 into my TSTE. However, before I got pick up the tranny, pedals, etc.. from the person I am buying them from, I am wondering what parts I will need off the donor car. Also, do I need the cradle from a 5 speed car or will the auto cradle work?

    Also, I've read some posts where people have explained it, but I'm still not quite sure how to override the park-neutral safety switch so the car will still start, yet avoid my 3k rpm limiter.

    Since I have a 440T4 should I run into any problems with the wiring other than the surging on decel due to the IAC, the park-neutral safety switch, wiring the reverse lights and trunk release, and wiring the clutch safety switch? If so, what all else needs to be done for it to work properly. (could care less about a functioning shift light and stuff like that, I just want to be able to drive the car down the road)

      don't forget the flexplate.
      92 cutty auto with a 97 3.4

      93 convert with 3.4

        Yeah, I know I'll need the flexplate... I appreciate you letting me know though. Really I just want to know if I'll need the cradle or not (since 284's weren't available in '90 I'm thinking I will???), and I want to know how to do the wiring for the Park/Neutral switch, reverse lights, etc...

          have a look on the main page in the tranny section. click on 284 and it tells you how to do the swap.

            Thanks. That answers my wiring questions, as long as the stuff for a car with the 440T4 is the same. (the wires that I need to splice are the same?) Now all I really need to know is if I need the cradle out of the donor car or not. I don't want to weld up any mounts if I don't have to, so thats why I wanna know if I'll need it because I don't want to have to try to find one later while I'm in the middle of the swap and I find out I need it.
