  • street clutch recomendations

car is an 86 z24 cavalier, it has a getrag 5 speed 282 from a 90 z24. im soon going to be finnished building my 2.8l ironhead up and when i drop it in im going to put in a performance clutch. i have a couple in mind, but i want to know what everyone recomends.

this is a daily driven car that will see street legal nights at the track. im aiming at over 200hp with the motor. being a daily driver, i dont want a puck clutch, and i need a sprung hub. i would also like to have a soft pedal (a bit more firm is ok, just dont want firewall bending, seat breaking stiff)

i was thinking of a clutchmaster stage 2 or 3 (leaning towards the 3). i havent heard much about them, but they look like a nice clutch. i have heard mixed thoughts with the bully stage 2 (some work well, some smoke out running mid 14s). i havent heard much on the spec clutches either.

so, what do you guys run??? what would you recomend???

i got one off the fiero store, should handle whatever a N/A motor can throw its way, its got a little bit bigger (1/2" i think) friction plate. but fo boost you'l probabyl want better.

i have a spec stage 3 ceramic, if your not going to use nitrous or boost, go with the stage 2 kevlar.

eventualy i will see nitrous or boost.....or both. im not to keen on a puck clutch, id rather go with a full ceramic disk. from what i figured out on my desktop dyno 2000 the most torque i would be getting with my light boost and nitrous would be just over 300ft/lb, so i think the stage 2 will work out fine

umm i would not buy a spec stage 2 clutch. spec stage 3 doesn't even hold 6 psi on a 3.1. Get a bully clutch they are one of the best you can get for a 282.

Spec needs to pull there head out of there ass. Stage 3 can't even hold 250 lbs torque

well, so far all i can get localy is a centerforce dual friction. it was gonna be about $300 canadian with release bearing (they even have it in stock). im not big on the cf clutch though, id much rather have a bully or something. the place id be getting it from (mopac auto supply) is one of the big distributors of performance parts to the parts stores, so unless i order in, im not sure what ill be getting.

i guess ill have to order a clutch from stateside and hope i get it quickly

                  centerforce DF wears very quickly.

thats what ive heard. i also know they dont have the weights on the pressure plate, so you basicly get a good disk and a slightly better pressure plate.

I have to agree. I installed one with my buddy in his Z24. That is a premium clutch. The 4 puck design offers superior cooling aswell.

im not willing to go with a puck clutch. the car will still be daily driven and i need a clutch that isnt stupid in trafic.

ill have another look at the bully stage 2.

The marcel in the clutch disc has more effect on how abrupt it engages then pucks vs no pucks. More clutch companies are combining the holding power of the 4 and 6 puck clutches with the sprung hubs and less aggressive marcel material to make a strong street clutch. Try a 6-puck clutch dics from www.clutchnet.com There are some Fiero guys running these on the street with success. I plan to go with the 6-puck, sprung-hub model in my car, which will see street action.

Buddy that is a bully stage 2 clutch Pucks or no pucks do not affect the ability to drive on the street.
