  • Hello and question!!

Hello, I'm new over here on this forum and have a question.

    I have 1995 Cutlass supreme 3.1 motor, 4t60e tranny.

Its got about 168k on the odometer,,, motor was recently replaced with another 3.1 with about 90k.

The tranny is starting to give me the blues,,, not shifting when the motor get hot, pulling hard, etc.

I think i might have found a good one from someone but, he's not sure if the plug will need to be switch over or if it will be a direct fit.

The tranny I'm interested in; originally came out of a 91 cutlass 3.1 and was put into a 94 lumina, and I was told that it ran flawless until pulled however, in order to run it in the lumina, the plug had to be converted.

My question is: Will i need to switch my plug over or should i be ok, since it came out of a 91 cutlass with a 3.1?

    Any help is appreciated.....

    Thanks

it actually came out of a 91 cutlass 3.4. i personally put about 5,000 miles on it.

the 3.1 didnt get the 4t60-e till 93.

    welcome aboard as well.

well, sort of 2 differnt transmissions here. in 91, they used the 4t60 transmission, also known as a 440t4. in 92, gm started phasing in the 4t60e transmission, and by the end of 94, the 4t60 was finnished.

now im guessing that he changed the lockup plug from a square style to the round style(this changed around 92). this trans would still be a 4t60. the 4t60e case connector looks the same as a 4t60 round case connector, but the 2 transmissions arent compatible.

the only thing i can realy tell you is to find out what trans it is. look on the top of it to see if it has a throttle cable on it, if it does, its a 4t60, if not (and there isnt a hole for one) its a 4t60e.

Thanks for the information, I dropped the car off at the tranny shop last night, hopefully they will run it pretty hard this morning and will be able to tell me what the problem REALLY IS with this tranny. I will post back when i find out some more information.

          Thanks Sharkey,

Maybe, i wasn't clear on my original post. The tranny that i want to put into my 95 cutlass is the 4t60e that patgizz has, according to his post above, he didn't mate it up with his 3.1 till 93, but it is a 4t60e also, he also had to switch case connector.

Patgizz, maybe u can explain it a bit better than I....lol

          Thanks

the connector is physically the same i had to swap a few wires on the connector to get it to work correctly with the 94 harness. same # of wires and same jobs, but they were in different places on the connector.

based on this info... will i need to make any adjustments to make it work on my 95...., or maybe i buy the harness to go along with the trans...

basicly what you will need is the wiring diagram of the plug on your car and on the plug for what is was previously set up for. from there you can tell if you will need to change any wiring around or not.
