  • anyone got a bad 284 master cylinder around?

Anybody here have a bad one? I'm curious on what size the bore on it is.

I dont have a bad one lying around... but am curious as to why you want to measure the bore?

I'm just guessing here but... If youre pondering whether 282 hydrolics will work I dont think they will... a long ways back Nico (if you remember him) said the bores were different and that the 282 hydrolics would have to much throw and potentially knock the TO bearing off... or something to that effect.

Physically they look the same though, the slave cylinder in my beretta (282 trans) looks exactly the same as the one in my 284. I've had both slaves out and they appear the same, even the pintle (if thats what youd call it) seemed the same diameter and extended to what looked like the same throw with no load on it. Maybe the difference is in the master cylinder? Havent really taken a look at the 282 master.

I went to Autozone.com to look up some part numbers for slave cylinders. A slave cylinder for a 91 GTP has a different part number than a slave cylinder for a 90 Bertta 3.1L. I have no clue what the difference is though.

I have a 94 firewall (94 car :P) and it is different then the 93-. When filing out the hole for the MC I messed up and went a wee bit too far on one corner so the MC fits loosly (the MC needs replacing anyways). I have a 93 firewall piece to swap in sometime.....

So, I look at the price of a 284 cylinder and it costs around $90. Then I find aftermarket MC assembly's, can get them with about any bore for less then $90 and they cheap rebuild kits for them. Since my firewall piece that I am putting in is off right now doing a special mount for the MC is not a problem.

I'm kinda curious on how you 'knock' a 284 TOB off. Not that I am doubting Nico because he was the man after all.

The Tilton brand down at the bottom half.

We are sorry, the page that you are seeking is not available or does not exist. Do not worry though. We can get you back on track.

Either way if I did go with a larger bore MC (not planning to) I would make a pedal stop so that I did not overextend anything.

Through calculating the volume of a spare slave cyl I have I know the bore of the slave, if i could only find the paper i wrote it on. Still doesn't do much good without knowing the MC bore size.
