  • shift kit for 4t60

Is there a shift kit available for a 4t60 at all, does anyone know where i could get my hands on one. It is not a 4t60E, it is a 440t4. The only thing i can find is that stupid ass plug-in electric kit for the 4t60e.

    RE: shift kit for 4t60

plug in electic kit?? I know B&M has the unit that plugs into the vacume port on the tranny. Just like taking the hose off. The only other ones I know are TransGo and Superior...but the are more of a FIX kit. But they do firm up shifts better than stock.

      RE: shift kit for 4t60

hey thanks, but do you know where to find model numbers for these, cause i have been having trouble finding model numbers, and where to get them. All i have found are Electronic shift improvers for the 4t60E and 4t65E that just change shift points electronically. Let me know if you have any more info on this. Thanks

i put in the transgo jr kit over the weekend and it was a pia and didnt do much at all. there is one step i couldnt do to give firmer lockup because mine has a woven carbon convertor lining. it only applies to certain 96-98 models, so if you yours isnt that you could do it and it will do better than it did for mine but i def wouldnt do it again unless the tranny was out it just didnt do enough and the sonnax would probably do less.

pwmin...was this a 4t60 or the 4t60-e? Most shift kits I know for the E trans are a FIX. Firmess comes from the compurter controlled line pressure and modual.

              e. i know its mostly a fix kit and it was only a junior kit, but it did firm it up a little and with the other thing i couldnt do it wouldve been better. the other thing changes the control of the lockup pressure from the pwm solenoid to the modulator which is supposed to result in firmer lockup

When getting a rebuild of the 4T60 and 4T60e, what kind of questions should I ask?

For example..Can you put in the so and so from the 4T65? or Are you using updated parts, which parts? Can you use 'blue plate' parts?

I don't want to hijack the thread so, can the rebuilders put a kit on?

Basically I am looking for a little more than basic rebuild.

im not sure about interchanging 65 parts, but a lot of times when you have your tranny built, they put a shift kit in the valve body anyway to fix possible problems.

with a 4t60 there are a lot more options and the shift kit will obviously help more with lockup and shifts

actually, we had a 60e come in that chirped first and it had springs installed backwards, but thats kinda ghetto

Just tell them you want a shift kit in it. Tell them you want the best frictions, and the best hard parts. Raybestos Kevlar Power bands are a good upgrade. Alto Products corp. sells a good upgrade to the 2nd clutch pack using red eagle clutches. Raybestos has a good 4th gear Carbon clutch, Alto also sells a good 4th clutch using a bend tooth desighn to save the 4th gear hub or keep it from failing on a new hub. Sonax has MANY upgrade hard parts for the trans...from the final drive sungear to the reverse reaction drum.

IF you go into a transmission shop and ask for the cheapest job possible they are just gonna patch it up and send yeah on your way... If you go in and tell them you want a full good rebuild done, something they'd be willing to put a 2 year warrenty behind, you are gonna pay more and get more.. In a full rebuild you should get all the updates done(this includes a shift kit as part of it) new torque converter, high energy frictions, new vacume mod..

now, BACK TO MY ISSUE! haha Where would i find this vacuum modulator shift kit or its part number for my transmission?? also, i read elsewhere on this site that if i put the drive chain and drive chain sprocket from a 4t60 with a 3.4 dohc mated to it, i will end up with a 3.73:1 final drive. Is this worth it to do? if so, where can i get these parts, and what would the tooth counts or part numbers be? THANKS

The vacum modulator shifter is a waste of money. Its the cheap B&M unit. TO get the same results just unplug your vacume line from your modulator. Even so...this is for part throtle drive. At WOT it will feel the same. The chain and sproket upgrade is worth it if you want fast acceleration. Im leaning towards it if you have a well moded 2.8/3.1 or 3*00 engine. As far as parts go..look at the main page of the site.
