Well i took my original 3t40 from my grand am and i overhauled it myself, i replaced all the clutches and steels( borg warner) , seals, bearings, thrust washers, gaskets, tcc lockup silenoid, drive chain, pump shaft, pump rotor, vanes, and pump housing, torque converter, i ripped apart all the valves in the valve bodys, i cleaned them and adjusted them where needed, and cleaned the valve bodys spotless, and i got done installing saturday morning and the car drives perfect, i am so proud of myself, everyone said it couldnt be done unless a pro did it with lots of experience, well ill tell you it works flawlessly, i cant wait till its broken in so i can see how it really performs, lol, i did it in good timing too, i had the tranny completely rebuilt from start to finish in less than 8 hours( not bad for my first time), and i had it changed in roughly 5 hours, ive changed a few trannys before so that wasnt new to me. but you know it would have been faster if the stupid crossover pipe bolts didnt snap off in the exhaust manifold and had to be drilled out. anyways i did good and im proud of myself.(the tranny wouldnt even budge an inch that was it was replaced the first time)
