  • HELP with vacuum modulator

I just bought an ATP adjustable vacuum modulator for my transmission. I'm not really sure how to remove the old one or install the new one. Its not threaded so what holds it on the transmission? One end has a gold plunger type thing that has some play in it. Any tips or info anyone can give me on how to install and tune the modulator would be appreciated! Thanks!

Here's a pic if it helps:

    RE: HELP with vacuum modulator

there is a bolt and a clamp beside the mod. take the bolt out and the mod will pull out. just slide the new one in and bolt it back down.

the mod controlls the shift timing. if you want it to shift sooner, turn the screw out 1/4 turn at a time. if you want it to shift later, turn the screw in 1/4 turn at a time.

the little valve they are showing on the diagram usualy stays inside the transmission when you pull the old mod out..

I got it installed and am VERY happy with the way it drives. Upshifts occur a little sooner and much quicker/tighter. TCC engagement is also much quicker. I turned the screw 1 1/2 turns (one complete turn, and the a half turn).

How much is too much as far as tightening the screw too much?

hard to say. it depends on the mod and engine/tranny. just play with it till you are happy.
