okay let me go over this better.
the 96 monte carlo uses two seperate torque converters for the ls model on the 4t60-e. it also states that these same two torque converters can be used on the th440t4 and the th125c.
now the 1990 cutlass supreme vin d uses the th125...not really that sure of the difference between the th125 and the th125c...so if the torque converters are interchangeable for the monte would it be possible for the cutty to transfer over as well?1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS/SS 3100 SFI

i believe the converters from the 440t4/4t60, 4t60 e and th125c are interchangable. every converter i have put into a 440t4 and 4t60-e has 125c painted on them (i work at a tranny shop, see lots of gm fwd stuff).
the differance between a 125 and 125c is the 125c is a lockup and a 125 is non lockup. the 125 will use a different converter than a 125c, 440t4 and 4t60e.

if you go to car-parts.com and enter in 1990 oldsmobile cutlass supreme with the 2.3L VIN D automatic trans it says that it's a 125 which is where i began getting confused. same with a site that has the torque converter...saying it's a 125 trans. it doesn't say anything about it being the "c" model though but you would assume since what year it is that it would be.1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS/SS 3100 SFI

its easy to tell what tranny you have.
first look at the shifter. if it says p-r-n-od-d-2-1 its a 440t4, and if it says p-r-n-d-2-1 its a th125/125c
if its a th 125/125c have a look at the front of the tranny on the drivers side. if you se a grey or blue square plug with 2, 3 or 4 wires going into it (this is the lockup plug), its a th125c.

My shifter says P-R-N-OD-D-L and its a 4T60E.... So the shifter is never the best way to try to tell...-Brad-
