  • auto tranny sticks in gear!!!

Ive got a real problem on my hands here, just started this today. When I was sitting in traffic the transmission got stuck in second gear. It wouldnt downshift to first when I stopped, and it wouldnt upshift into third. I limped it home in rush hour traffic, didnt get above 35mph though cuz of the traffic. I watied til about 10 oclock and took it out after it cooled fof some to see if it had gotten any better. It did, but only in a sort of kinda way. It stays in first gear until I get to about 35mph, then it will firmly kick into second. It stays in second unitl I get to about 60mph, then it goes into third. If I get back below 45mph it will kick down into second again.
    What exactly could cause this?
Ive been having trouble with this thing lately, I just changed the fluid about 2 weeks ago. It was slipping in third gear, and the fluid and filter change didnt help a damn bit.
Is there anything I can do about it myself? Any suggestions? Thanks.

If it was slipping in 3rd gear before the fluid and filter change and that did help, then I am sorry to say your transmission is done for.. time to start looking into a rebuild or a used transmission..

about all you can do is make sure the kick down cable is not bound up at WOT. if it is, it will cuase hard shifts and late shifts (if you arent pushing it to WOT).

other than that, id say she's done. look into a rebuild or else get a used tranny.

sounds like there was a leak either one of the valve bores, or one of the other many seals in the transmission, and changing the fluid only opened up that leak more by washing away some of the varnish -

you'll probably be looking at a rebuild with a new/reconditioned valve body.
