  • 282 gearing by RPO

In the 282 article section, there is this info:

    Quad 4 Getrag 89 1st...3.50 2nd...2.19 3rd...1.38 4th...1.03 5th...0.72 FDR...3.61
    1990 1st 3.50 2nd 2.19 3rd 1.38 4th 1.03 5th 0.81 Axle 3.61
    1991 1st 3.77 2nd 2.19 3rd 1.38 4th 1.03 5th 0.81 Axle 3.61
    1992-1994 1st 3.50 2nd 2.05 3rd 1.38 4th 1.03 5th 0.72 Axle 3.94
    1991-1993 W41 1st 3.50 2nd 2.05 3rd 1.38 4th 1.03 5th 0.81 Axle 3.94
    Isuzu L-Body 1st 3.73 2nd 2.15 3rd 1.33 4th 0.92 5th 0.74 Axle 3.83 V6
    Getrag All years J and L body 1st 3.50 2nd 2.05 3rd 1.38 4th 0.94 5th 0.72 Axle 3.61
    W Body V6 1st...3.77 2nd...2.19 3rd...1.38 4th...1.03 5th....0.81 FDR...3.61

What are the RPO's for the various transmissions?
MG2 was used in Fieros and with V6's. It had 3.50 first, 2.05 2nd, 1.38 third, 0.94 fourth and 0.72 fifth with 3.61 FD.
The MV5 (I think) was used in W41's and has 3.50/2.05/1.38/1.02/0.81/3.94
    The MY5 (I think) was the W-body 5 speed with 3.77/2.19/1.38/1.03/0.81/3.61

I don't know what RPO's the other transmissions had. Does anyone?

I think that a project I have in mind would work best with the '89 Q4 gearset listed above, but I'd have to put the conventional bellhousing onto it. But I don't know what RPO transmission to look for. Any help?

The vast majority of V6's were MG2...
The only ones that weren't had the "W-body V6" gearing above... I think that gearset only came in the Cutlass, not the Grand Prix

A while back i was at the dealer inquiring about the availability of a trans for the 1994 3.1 J-Body and they asked me if the final drive was a 3.61 (Which is the normal one) or a 3.43 or something like that. Anyone here work at a dealer that can verify that one?

the final drive for all V6 Jbody 5spd's was the 3.61:1, there were no other ratios for teh 5spd available.

teh 3.45:1 was for the Isuzu 4cyl 5spd trans.

According to that site (which I won't take as gospel)...

                Acheiva Quad-4 1992-1994 NVG T550 (MY5/MV5)

                Calais Quad-4 1988-1991 Muncie 282 (MG2/MU1)

                Cutlass Supreme 1988-1990 Muncie 282 - 5TM40

                Silhouette 2.3 4 cylinder 1993-1996 NVG-T550 (MU1)

                Grand Am 1988-1994 Quad-4 Muncie 282 (MGs[2?]/MV5)

                Sunbird Turbo & V6 1987-1994 Getrag 282 (MG2)

I've left out most of the MG2's, since those are so common. The Sunbird Turbo transmission is kind of interesting, though... That was the Brazilian OHC engine, which had a different bellhousing, I think.

Yes from the different info I have gathered it is different. Was it not an Isuzu or Toyata engine that was used?

half of the transmission in my beretta came from a Sunbird Turbo. But it needs to be replaced again.

Why does it need to be replaced? Are you that hard on transmissions?

                      You could just overhaul it...
