  • 282 - what do these parts do?

ok here you're looking at a piss poor diagram of what's underneath the shift shaft cover, you know, that cover at the front that points slightly downward.

ok number one is the shift shaft, pictured without the spring.

it has a lever off it (that piece going down towards #2) then 2 is a little pin thing, that limitsthe travel of the shift shaft.

#3 is a piece that springs up and down, seemingly to allow the pin (2) to go over under certain conditions.

my q is WTF do #2 and 3 do? the transmission seems to shift fine without the pin in that lever. and with the pin out the piece #3 is redundant right?

say #2 and #3were to be damaged, os the pin is no longer in and the piece no longer can retreat into the case.

    is it screwed then?[/img]

It could be the reverse lockout, so you cant go straight from 5th gear to reverse by accident.

? Chris get a real picture of what your talking about.... its too early in the morning to try and comprehend what you are trying to picture.

However... IF its in that transmission, its htere for a reason, dont fuck with it.

Been a while since I had my box that far apart (or my spare box that far together)
Take a pic of it... that should jog my memory.
The spring under #1 is the 5-R bias spring. I do know that...

I know 282's are purported to have reverse lockouts, but I've never run across one that did...
