LOL 4T65E never breaks. Yea right. It has more problems than the 60E. But it is just a small shim that fails. It never has gear clutch or band failures.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

At first I was thinking "Don't these guys realize that they'll need some way of controlling it?", and then I did some more research...
$700 for a fully programmable, standalone controller that will work with the 65E. Kinda makes me interested in building up a 65E-HD...-Brad-

the 65e is becoming more and more common as a great racing auto tranny, ive heard it has been used in a great many applications including Honda. I even heard somewhere that it may be put into hondas stock in the future.
With advances in auto transmission technology they have begun to rival manuals in effiency and power distrubution.
Recently ive become quite intrested in variable rate trannys

yeah but there is a power loss with an auto and they arent geared as high as a manual
Manuals might be better for the street tuned car your driving where your running maybe a 14, hell even a 13 second 1/4. You get down to the 9 second cars, you have fun shifting through your gears not missing a shift. I'll tell you what ride in a car with nos, and then when they hit the spray try adjusting the radio, or leaning forward.2001 Mustang GT

Yeah, I believe when you look at the common conception of auto tranny's being less efficient, it is based totaly on your off-the-lot crusin' car. But consider that these trannys are designed and tuned to have output at low RPM not nessesarily the power band. Then they tune them to slip more to make the shifts smoother and less noticeable. Also, when they test the tranny's for fuel economy they have professionals doing the driving, they know exactly when to shift them what the best speeds are etc. Thus, allowing the actual numbers to be much different from what you and I can produce day-to-day. Where as, with an auto tranny the playing field is leveled signifigantly, because you basically push the pedal and go. The only difference being how hard you push it. Plus, consider that the tests may not even be based on the same rate of acceleration.
Just a little thought I gave this idea. Because now I'm thinking about building a 4T65E-HD and pairing it with that stand alone controller. It makes good sense now, because I would have to rig some way of controlling it in my car anyway.

You wana talk about gears? Well gears can be made to whatever suits your needs. There is no reason why an auto trans cannot have the same gears as a manual one.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

Oh yea I agree it is way more fun. I love driving my 5 speed and prefer it over an auto. But dont bash an auto, because there are alot of areas where it will school a manual.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma
