I have a 92' lumina 3.1MPFI and i am going to change it from auto to manual and i was trying to figure out if i had to change the harness to a manual harness or keep it as the auto harness... i was thinking all that would have to change is the chip... am i right on thinking this? and if i do have to change the harness WHY?

Can Auto tranny harness work with 5 speed

You wouldn't have to change the harness or the chip.. With the 3.1L you'll have a 440t4 auto transmission in your car.. it's not computer controled so you wont have to worry about any of that.. when you do how ever changed over to a 5 speed you'll have to do something about by passing the nutural saftey switch and wiring in clutch saftey switch and also reverse lights switch..

You should swap to the 5 speed chip so the IAC is programmed better for the manual, along with the fuel and spark changes made, especially decel. You dont need the clutch switch as long as you know to start the car in neutral or with the clutch pressed in. Reverse lights, I gotta do that still on mine. There are only 4-5 wires you need to deal with, pocket-rocket or oldskoolgp should know which ones they are.Ben

awsome yeah i forgot about the ignition wiring and the backup lights..... i was thinking too much on the mechanical end of things.. and that damn steering column. that would be a great help.... is changing the steering column a big deal? with the ignition an all?91\' Mazda miata.
