What cars other than the early 90's W-body DOHC came with a Getrag 284?

there are other manual options for w-bodies besides the 282 and 284, it just depends on the power your looking to put through it

I think the Masarati TC by Chrysler and the Dodge Spirit RT/Turbo also gad a manual tranny with the same guts as the 284, but with the Chrysler designed case. I don't think any parts would interchange with the GM version, however.

How much can the 284 handle, and are there any other manuals that will fit on a 3.4 DOHC?

ive heard of someone slaping a 284 on a s/c 3.8L running 400hp and it took the power just fine.

Ive heard 2 sides to that, Ive heard the 284 taking up to 400hp then ive also heard it blowing up every 6 months with more than 350hp. The 282 doesnt like too much above 320 but at least it is servicable. Keep in mind that if you trash a 284 it is not self-servicable and its expensive to repair.

Im guessing the varied reports I get on the longevity of the 284 is highly dependant upon the driver. I like to beat the hell out of my car. You can have a lot of power and be careulf and your trans will last. Or you can beat it up and it will last only for a little while. I want to go into autocross, I need a manual option that can take a beating and ask for more.

My 284 has been handling 210hp and 215lb/ft for 176,xxx miles. Just make sure you use the GM transmission fluid, nothing else.

I want to make at least 350whp(I'm gonna need a little help doing it) , don't care how so long as I don't use any giggle gas. I'm going to rebuild my transmission any ways, If parts were to fail what would they be?

I hear the clutch goes the most, if thats the case then it may just be the driver and not the transmission

the Spirit R/T actually got the Getrag A568; the TC was the only one to get the Getrag 284, and only 501 of them at that.
