5 speed break down pictures? anybody got them?

Well i sandblasted my getrag 284, and i sealed it up good, but just to be sure im gonna take it apart and give it a good cleaning, and maybe replace the syncro rings. so i need some pictures , advice , anything on doing this, because i do not need to screw this transmission up. a nice diagram would be awesome if someone has one. also is there anything else i sohuld replace ( thats not to expensive) while its apart? thanks for the input.

My Haynes manual has an exploded parts view (although it may be of the getrag 282 since the manual covers 88-96, I can check on that tommorow). I also believe you need specialty tools to open up a 284 and I am sure you are aware that no replacement parts are available to the public... but maybe parts from other transmissions can interchange? (as in by chance finding synchro cones and blocking rings from some other model transmission that will fit/work - but good luck with that!)

My GM serivice manuals have hundreds of pages devoted to the 4t60e and then just a small section for the 284 that covers the fork and clutch system but not much deeper than that.

The only person that I know of that has opened up a getrag 284 is Nick P. and he is long gone from these message boards and the 60v6 community. From what I recall he said the problem with the worn synchronizers was a machining 'defect' and once the frictional teeth became slightly worn they failed to make proper contact or something to that effect - it has been quite a while.

Actually he said when they started to wear, they ride up on the cone. Once they get so far worn, they make contact with the cone, and on longer spin independantly of the cone, effectivly moving the two peices as one. At least that is what I understood from what he said when Ben and I picked up the Cutty.

BTW, are you getting Palsy, or did you just stutter an awfull lot when typing this out? lol. j/k
