Getrag 284

So I have a spare getrag 284 thats no good. ( Complete loss of synchro on 2nd gear ) I have a good one thats going in my car when the time comes, but for the meanwhile, I figured Id tear into it, and see what I can find.

This is how far Ive gotten:


My goal is to pull all the shafts, forks, etc etc from the case, and hopefully match them up with something to find some spare parts. As well as learn more about the workings of a FWD 5spd. Anybody have any insight or tips? Doesnt really matter to be about this trans since I have a good one, so this is just a learning experience here.

There is a complete rebuild kit already but it was shipped to Canada and the owner used to post here. May still visit, i dunno, but you can probably search and find it on here. Good luck finding parts, I think that was his intention as well.

It would be cool if you got somewhere with this. The trans in the 91 is like yours. Double clutch ftw in that car.
