So I am being cheap and browsing for used transmissions for my car. I have 200k on my impala and the tranny is having issues. In being prepared for replacement I want to be sure I know I get the right one. My 05 Impala 3.4 Base was built in late 04. So do you know know where I can find the part number on this thing? I cant see it anywhere. Or do you know what the part number is? I know its a 4T65E, but it seems there are variations, and I am told a change in 03...

I have noticed when buying at parts stores, I often have to tell the guys at the counter that its an 04 to get the correct part. Other times stating that it is an 05 will suffice...

In theory, the type of transmission is stated in the VIN number. If you brought that into the right place, they could look it up that way.
