    Who?
It would be kind of cool to have a new "Beretta" cable on a Beretta. Also you can get a rise out of people with it.
    New shift cable?
    Yeah.
    Where did you get it?
    It's a Beretta cable.
    Yeah I know that.
    And so on.

I did a thread on this on Bnet but no one was interested enough to deal with it or could afford anything so I dropped it.

I thought about doing this years ago, when I had my Cavaliers and V6 Skyhawk. In the end I decided that it would be too difficult to get an accurate shifting linkage, with the route it would need to take. Hondas and other vehicles can use solid linkage because the transmissions are designed in such a way to make a linkage possible.

I believe that the design of the transmission and the layout of the cables both contribute to difficult shifting. If the cables were solely to blame for difficult shifting then other vehicles that use cables would have the same issues and most that I have driven don't.

how exactly do you adjust it? if you loosen the linkage on the trans you might have 1/16" of play.. seems like I remember doing it on my old fiero at the shifter assembly in the car using some sort of pin to center it. never saw anything like that for the beretta.

I have thought about custom cables, im getting used to the one-off parts lol. I have yet to price them but at $80 for the cheap one time use cables im kinda scared to price that.. just with my cable luck in general im scared they would fail on top of that. I have been using jy cables with a short shifter I made (less leverage) and that has helped this set last a lot longer that normal, at least prevents it from 100% failure where you cant physically move the shifter lol.

yeah the design is definitely different for the trans. my geo has such a great design! so simple. shift linkage is on the bottom of the trans, 2 almost straight bars going to the shift lever in the car.

I'm guessing that a custom setup would come with some sort of warranty behind it if they believe in their products... It's not cheap to play with the big boys...

I've been working out the kinks of a hydraulic shifter for my fiero, probably won't ever do it, but if you want positive shift feel, hydraulic would be tight!

I'm leaving this link here for future reference...

Subscribed for news. My cables have always shifted really nicely, but a backup plan would always be a good thing.

it'll be a long while before I start working on something like it, all I'm really doing right now is spitballing and research.

that hydo idea seems pretty good!! hmmm.. so basically you would have a cylinder on the trans and the shifter right? well 2 on each

they would need to be double action cylinders, but yeah, that's the basic idea.
