Cool man, when I installed my HTOB I learned it needed primed with fluid and for some reason it would not work no matter how much I bled the lines. I had to remove it (pull trans) to pump the air out by pumping the HTOB itself and then it worked great. It might just have been how it was for mine cause it felt like it snapped into place or something like that.

I remember 0.1" gap space between the HTOB and pressure plate fingers is desired for wear over time. You can figure the with a straight edge off the bell housing.

Pretty cool how your custom building.

The htob is an aftermarket McLeod one and I think I can adjust how close or far it is to the pressure plate once I get the transmission bolted up. I'll look into the bleeding procedure thanks for the heads up.

Since I already have the T56 master cylinder installed in the car I plan on getting an AN adapter fitting for its braided line.

Made some minor progress today, clutch is supposed to be in the mail by wednesday (6-puck with I think a yellow pressure plate from clutchnet).

Got the bellhousing fully mounted to the engine today:
I found I had to grind the block a little where the countersink bolt is supposed to go on the adapter plate to get it to seat properly. Also ground a little slightly below for the bolt to go into the bellhousing

And here on the other side I ground a bit off to seat the other bellhousing bolt.

Then I moved on to starter fitment:

Some minor clearancing was neccessary to fit the starter and more will be needed once/if I shim it out for the RWD flywheel

Nice, I see you got the shield around the starter to fit

Do they meet or is there a gap between the two? Don't want that rattling against the bellhousing, might amplify enough to trip false KR. Easy fix though, silicon, rtv, gap....more grinding, lol.

What is the goal again? Car type, power, etc....I forget. If you don't mind I ask.

I just wanted to get an idea of fitment for now. It's most likely touching right now (I know that would be bad). If I end up using the starter ring on the rwd flywheel I'll have to grind more since the starter will need to be spaced out.

This is going in an 89 Firebird and it's getting a turbo LX9. I'm considering a BW EFR turbo possibly 8374 twinscroll. I'll probably start a build thread soon. The car is a hardtop, has a tubular k-member/a-arms/coilovers, already has the T56 crossmember, 9-bolt BW rear end with 4.11 gears (which need better shimming).

Clutch arrived yesterday but they sent the wrong disc so I didn't get the transmission mounted. However, I did get to do some measuring, and installed my pilot bushing.

I don't think I'll have to shim out the flywheel at all, the only thing I may need to trim is the base of the HTOB to get the proper depth.

As you can see in this picture, the pressure plate fingers are close to the bellhousing face, so at this point the HTOB will probably be touching the pp fingers a few mm before the trans meets the bellhousing.

I should be able to trim enough off the back side if the HTOB to get the right depth. If not, I could try with a FWD pressure plate which I don't think protrudes out so far (based on my memory of the 4-speed pp on my Fiero)

I installed the pilot bushing I had made; it's the same dimensions as a stock bushing for a 3.4L Camaro, but twice as long, and with a step in it to seat in the crank nicely.

So the correct clutch finally arrived yesterday and I was able to sort out pretty much all remaining fitment issues. Without any shims, spline engagement on the input shaft appears perfect:

I had to trim the back of the HTOB a bit so that it wouldn't be putting pressure on the pressure plate when bolted up:

I may need to trim the pilot bushing back a few mm but I might not need to either. If anyone else was attempting this I would say that a pilot bushing 10mm longer than stock would be sufficient. I should be bolting up the trans within the next few days to finalize everything.

                  Hi,

That is my starter shim. 14mm wrench fits on it snug, so a 14mm shim. I tried a 9/16" wrench and it was a bit loose.

This is when you need to bolt a RWD 2.8L flexplate or flywheel to a 3X00 FWD V6 with the mini-starter.

The starter engagement is smooth and quiet.

Sounds good. My bellhousing will definitely need clearancing for that but shouldn't be too bad.
