  • Question : Poly engine/trans mount material

I've read of a few people that took stock mounts and removed the rubber and filled them with polyurethane. Well, my really rare and no longer sold 284 trans mount was caught on the subframe when I pulled my engine and whole I haven't looked at it closely, I'm pretty sure it's bad now, so I was wondering, where do the people that full their mounts the their polyurethane from? TIA.

Lol! Thanks for that link. Funny thing is I have a tube of that same stuff in the garage from when I found out the back window and windshield leaked on the 92. He isn't joking about it being messy if you get it on you.

Liquid nails does not work, it cracks and comes apart. McMaster-Carr sells the correct poly to use, I would go that route.

McMaster-Carr is the complete source for your plant with over 595,000 products. 98% of products ordered ship from stock and deliver same or next day.

That's the exact sort of thing I was looking for. I don't visit McMaster-Carr enough to remember it. Thanks a ton

Depending on the type of response / feel. I would use 45 to 60 rating. I tested some 100+ and it was too hard. You need some flex that's why I suggest a 50+
Windshield urethane is too soft and gets softer with heat and cycling action.

Window weld is terrible, and PL construction adhesive does work ok but it shrinks after a while and looks like hell.

Get the good poly and fill 'em up, i think my front mount on the Z24 was 60 and it was nice.

QFT. The bushings in my transmission mounts are said to be 90 durometer, and let me tell you, you feel every vibration. I can't imagine what it'd be like if my motor wasn't balanced.

Thanks guys. I think I'll go with the 60 then. I'm mainly doing it because I screwed up my trans mount pulling the engine and you can't get it anymore and I need something reliable and don't want drive line flex causing wheel hop but want to keep it bearable on the street.

Wuss.. all my mounts are solid steel.. it's soothing on a long road trip to the track.

IIRC I used 80 or 90 to do my trans mount, I got my stuff from Forsch Polymer, it was a two part Poly mixture

Why not just use a 282 mount in place of the 284? Thats what I had to do.
