  • 4T60e Transmission leak

    Hello,

    99 Lumina, 3.1l, 4T60E transmission.

I have an unknown transmission leak location on the drivers side portion of the transmission underneath the car. I looked around the area of the trans pan, and it's difficult to locate the leak. I took the drivers side wheel off, and I still could not tell anything.

I'm gonna drive it around some and use the cardboard routine to see if I can pinpoint the leak.

I just wanted to know, besides a leaky trans pan gasket, what gasket, etc. commonly leaks on this side of the transmission? I hope it is not main shaft seal inside the casing where it connects to the flywheel, but I guess that can be a possibility. I've never replaced a seal like that before, and I'm tempted to take it to the trans shop if that is the case.

Hints appreciated based on your previous experience. Thanks.

my suggestion would be to completely dry off any fluid that is in the area, wait for the leak to present itself, then follow the trail.

driver's side.... the side pan is there, not the most horrible thing to get at, but nowhere near as easy as the main pan.

To add to what Robert said, take it to a car wash and get the trans as clean as you can. This will make it much easier to locate the leak.

Check the feed and return lines for the cooler.
