  • Question : 284 Throwout bearing poping out of pressure plate

I searched the forum for this issue but i did not find anything.

Car: 1992 Grand Prix with a stock 284 trans
I got a new clutch kit from autozone this week and installed it as listed on the instructions it came with. long story short, the throwout bearing is not staying locked in the pressure plate. ive had to remove the salve cylinder twice just to pop the release fork back in the pressure plate. it only does it when the car is running, when the car is off i can push the clutch all day long.

Has anyone else had this issue before? or recommend any fixes?

Does a 284 have this same TOB slide as the 282? If so.. is yours broken?

na i wish it did. but this one is way different from the 282. the clutch works but only at low RPMs, im going to wield my old pressure plate tomorrow and test it out. I can have the throwout bearing on the pressure plate and slide the TOB slide with the trans half on. I'll take pix tomorrow and report back.

I know this may be a bad idea or sound stupid but right now i have no choice but to try something new. i still have the new defective clutch that i will be returning for a new one this week.

Here are some pix of the trans when i first pulled it.

can you post pictures and give me some info or tips on installing this. I returned the one to autozone today and i want a nice clutch. would you sell me the master and slave cylinder too? do you still have the trans mount or any other parts you wont be needing that i can buy off you?

I think i might just strip this car and throw the trans into my TGP so extra parts would be nice.

That pic of your clutch fork is wrong. The fingers of the fork go in to the 2 holes on the side of the bearing.
