Sorry if this question is in the wrong place but I need some info from u. I'm intrested in buying an 01 cavalier with a 2.2 4cyl and a 5spd manual trans. When I test drove it I noticed that you had to fish for second gear. The seller said you have to wiggle it from side to side just before dropping it in second. He has driven it this way for years. All the other gears shift fine. I could not see if the linkage is a cable style but I'm guessing it is, right? I tried to search online for a replacement but couldn't locate on. I hate to go to the dealer just yet. Anyone had this problem and was it an easy fix? thanks

I would think that it would have to be cable driven. It's strange it's only 2nd gear, but my first thought would (hopefully) be bushings, but I can't say that with 100% certainty because it's only 2nd that it does it with. My other thought would be an internal trans issue. You should change the fluid and see if you see any shavings in it.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.
