  • Separating 4T60E from 3100 V6

Alright guys,I'm in the middle of pulling my 3100 but leaving my 4t60e in place, got it already to be pulled, torque converter bolts out, tranny bolts out,all 6.started lifting 3100 and the damn thing won't separate.if i put a bar in to give me some leverage i can see it wanting to separate but won't let go....please tell me the secret to getting the 2 apart.

Also removed the tranny mount from the engine passenger side bottom, don't know if they welded mine in at the factory or what..would putting a floor jack under the tranny help me any? any suggestions much appreciated.TIA.

Did u remove the trans to engine mount? Two bolts hold the diff side to bracket.

The one that is reversed of all the rest of the bellhousing bolts? YES got it,it was a bitch, needed plenty of extensions and a cheater pipe on my breaker bar from the passenger side. Thanks GM for that one! If I put a tire iron between the engine and tranny I can see they want to come apart, just won't give..should I hit it with some PB blaster where the 2 come together? I'm at the point where I am ready to drag my beretta around the yard sideways with my Jeep until they separate.

All three converter bolts are out right? I would go under the car and "push" the converter back as far into the trans then try wiggle and jiggling the engine out.

Converter bolts are out,I did slide the converter back, but then moved the car to my pulling spot, maybe it slid back up to the flywheel, also going to try supporting the tranny a bit and see if I can get them to slide apart.could be binding a bit on the dowel pins.I am all up for any other suggestions,so if you are reading this, please throw in your 2 cents,I will not get offended by silly comments. Thanks again.

Remember that there is at least 1 (if not 2?) dowels aligning the trans to the engine, which may be stuck. If you can start to pry it apart, continue to try and see if you can tell where it is binding. My guess is on the dowels.

yeah I'm thinking i am binding on the dowel pins,I am going to try supporting the tranny a bit also.thanks

When you remove the engine to trans bracket there is no longer anything holding up that end of the transmission. I put a block of wood on that end of the pan and lift it up about an inch with a jack. It's easier to slide the engine to the side and up rather than down, as there is no room to go down. If u can see the two separating then it is loose. Make absolutely certain you have all harness wires and ground wires removed then find something to split them apart without damaging the mating surfaces, like a couple wedges of scrap wood. It usually takes a bit of wiggling on the engine to get it clear of the dowels.

Ok,got it. I forgot to remove the rear pass side tranny mount everyone has been telling me to check.Duh...getting old.Pulled that mount and they both separated. I got a 3100 with a tranny, and separated those on my utility trailer.thought i did the car,but decided to leave it in until I got to my pull spot.

Day started out not so good, read on the internet I could either take the hood off or just tie it up,soooo I got a rachet tie-down and hooked it under the hood walked to the back of the car and started racheting the strap, and guess what happened

I cracked the windshield on the passenger side down low.the wiper binded on the hood and CRACK.didn't even piss me off when it happened, kept on going and got the engine pulled, cleaned the engine compartment up and painted looks better then it did will resume again before it gets dark and will be happy if I just get the engine sitting in tonight.

Thanks for all the replys guys,You where all a great big help to me.Thank You!
