Sweet well he says it was hooked to a 3.1 so it should work good for gas mileage, he must have his years screwed up, will see

Do you have a link to the info to all these transmissions?

Why do people say to use a hm282?

how can i find a grand am/alero clutch pedal assembly. am unable to track one down. could i use a clutch pedal assembly from a differnet car? say off a j-bod. problay would need the master cylinder to right.

here is a picture of the transmission. its clearly a 282, looks like it has a hydralic throw out bearing. i think its the getrags made between 92-94. problaly has the mechanical reluctor vss. do i need to worry about the vss. i have a tuner but not sure if i need additional parts. what do i need to do about the slave cylinder if he doesnt have it?

i finally called him and for some reason now he is saying its a 4 cylinder. the bolt pattern on that transmission in that picture is the same as my motor. he is tellin me that all manuals are the same. i thought the quads had different bellhousings. will a 95 trans even work? am guessing if it has the 2200 in it, it would work right. looks like on wiki they started using the f23 in 96 on the 2.4.

i think am passing on this, if its a four cylinder trans then the fdr is probaly 3.94 which is bad for highway gas mileage, correct me if am wrong. what years should i look for, their are so many different types. does it matter if it has a internal slave on it?

you match your clutch with your transmission, so whatever it came from, search for a replacement clutch for that application.

I don't know if it matters, but I prefer an EXTERNAL slave cylinder. Why? Because if it fails it is easily serviceable. If it is internal you're pulling the trans. That said the hydraulics on my 91 Grand Prix (external slave), are 20 years old and function like new.

You can't use the Quad4 282 unless you swap bell housings with a v6. Not worth it, especially if your looking for best MPG. There were millions of v6/282 cars made, shouldn't be too hard to find one at a scrap yard. 282 is a great trans. I had a '90 year old Beretta with 3.1/282 and the trans shifted like it was brand new. 282 is a great trans in my opinion.

Hey jmgtp, I am also doing a getrag 282 swap in my 96 Grand Prix. I actually made a custom mount that bolted to the current pedal cage in my car. After I got the master cylinder installed I lined it up and marked where I needed to drill out the holes to bolt up the custom frame. Worked like a charm, so far anyways. I still have the final road test when I'm done.

My issue right now is the Trans mount for a W-Body. I just realized the 4t60e mount won't work. I'de much prefer to purchase a mount instead of building one.

Anyone know of any mounts that work? I heard GM discontinued the trans mount I need.

edit: I'm gonna brag just a little......my Getrag 282 has an Engineered Performance dual clutch limited slip differential. And a strong clutch for the amount of HP I'm gonna push. Last I calculated before the tear down was 320-360 ft/lbs around 3600-4800 RPM's.

                    All on a 3100 small port L82

if you guys had the choice would you pick the f23 or the getrag, am still searching for a transmission right now, the only thing i dont like about the f23 i think the final gear ratio would hurt the gas mileage, so am leaning towards a getrag, just need to find one.

ok i got a trans from a 1990 beretta 3.1, my questions are what should i replace before i swap it in. can i use a flywheel from a 2200 and the clutch setup from it to. i can get that for free so i was hoping it would work. dam junk yard had to break the end off the slave cylinder so i need to get a new one should i stay with the arm setup or convert to a throw out bearing.
