  • Can the 440t4/4t60 be made stronger?

I want to know if there's someone out there that has made a 440t4 / 4t60 4t60e stronger. I need to make mine to handle about 300 hp to the wheels daily.

More specifically, has someone done what is described in this thread? -> http://www.tgpforums.com/index.php?topic=3300.0

The originator of that thread makes a quick list but is not complete, at least he mentions he does not remember (3rd page, 1st post).

    yeah, drop a 4T80E in it's place

those survive behind factory 300HP motors for quite some time.

You could take many of the rotating components from a 4T65-E. I don't think you can run a 4T65-E HD differential though. There are a few aftermarket replacement upgrades you could perform on top of this. One company you may want to look into is SONNAX.

Thanks for the compliments Jonpro03. Thank you all for the input. I heard of the 65-hd internals but wanted to confirm. Guess I'll have to buy me one of those and gut it to swap the parts.

Haven't blown the Trans yet, but it's having difficulties shifting under boost, nothing major yet. I'm currently running my car @ 7 psi of boost and want to turn it to 10 psi very soon. I initially thought it was running @ 8 psi, but the other day I took my brother in law for a ride and he confirmed it's around 6.5 to 7 psi. My goal is 14 psi, but need a Trans to hold that.

Unfortunately the car is still running with Iron heads and stock fiero ECM with ostrich 2.0 so swapping to a 4t80 is not possible at this point. Not to mention I'm the kind of person that likes to maximize what the car came with, if it blows then I'll move it up a notch. Stock Trans started acting after numerous 125 nitrous shots thus ended with a 440t4.

I have made all kinds of adjustments and the shifts still feel weak under boost, primarily 2nd to 3rd. 1st to 2nd feels good. I rebuilt the Trans with Raybestos clutches, kept clearances to a minimum. If I remember correctly I have 6 clutches in 2nd, 6 in third and 4 in input. I also installed a transgo Jr. shift kit and the transgo reverse fix. Sanded both the 1-2 band and reverse band drums, added the biggest Hayden oil cooler and use Dexron 6 oil. Oh, and installed a 2100 RPM stall rebuilt converter from a 4 cyl. Fortunately, with 65-hd internals I can swap to better clutches like blue plates.

Do you guys know if the 65-hd oil pump can be used with the 440t4 / 4t60? I read somewhere that the newer pumps don't starve, but haven't heard of anyone using one.
