  • 94 3.4 grand prix gtp trans compatability

The transmission in my prix is going bad. When checking the yards they are claiming only a 4t60e from a 94 or 95 3.4 car will work. Anyone know the reason behind this? I understand there is a difference in the gearing. But is there a physical or electronic difference betweena 3.1 tranny and a 3.4?

IIRC, you should be able to use any 94-96 LQ1 4T60E, and any W-Body 3100 4T60E from 1993-1999.

the gearing difference is absolutely minimal, 3.43 compared to 3.33 FDR. the torque converters also stall within 30 RPM of each other.

ideally though, any 94-95 3.4 or 93-95 W-body 3100 trans will quite literally drop in place with no worries about anything being different.

Technically he could but the pwm soleniod was added to the TCC circuit in '94. '91-'93 did not have that... not that you need it... The early ones also had some pressure switches, but the '94+ did not use them...

actually, every 4T60E from 91 and up used the PWM operated TCC, except for the 91-93 LQ1 and 93-94 LH0 applications. and the pressure switches from the early ones? they're actually shifter position indicators.

Actually I believe they were saying something about a mount being different. I'll check back with them later today.

Yes I am only talking of the 60V6 applications.
