  • F40 manual swap

I have an 07 G6. It has the 4 speed auto transmission (4t45). I plan on doing a few som'n som'ns to the engine and need a better fit and I LOVE 6 speed manual transmission, so naturally the f40 is perfect because it would bolt right up. The problem is ALL G6 owners say its ABSOLUTE CRAP. They sware that its so bad it might as well not have existed, and one owners claims he went through three of them. I would like it to be reliable up to 350 lb/ft, and I will address the vibration issues with a pilot bearing, and a spring to stop one of the pieces from moving around 1/16 of an inch (details later). Thoughts on the F40?

Test drive a manual car first, if you like it, trade your auto car for a manual car. You will not install a pilot busching because the design will not permit it. Never heard of a vibration issue. When people tell you there is a prolem with it, have them elaborate on exactly what it is they are talking about. The crap they speak of may not have anything to do with the transmission itself. It could be a complaint with the shift linkage or a clutch failure since the dualmass flywheel is torque limited and can be over powered causing slippage at some point. Find out what the Saab owners opinion is, they use the same 6 spd with slightly different gearing and a different bellhousing. That's where it originated from before finding its way into the G6.

they had issues with the guides on the shifter forks wearing down because they were made of plastic, they should have a kit for brass ones

Well I was thinking brass shifter fork, billet flywheel, better clutch. Maybe have it cryoed. This should make it bulletproof.
Oh and I had a manual car, I liked it but the final gear ratio was far to high.
