grabbed this from the TGPforums since it came up recently....
Code:|--------Maximum-------| Engine Gearbox Gross Torque Trans Weight Torque Torque Veh. Wt. Conv. Dia. Model (lbs.) (lb/ft) (lb/ft) (lbs) (inches) 3T40 161 200 416 5100 9.64 4T60 195 235 369 5181 9.64 4T60-E 203 280 390 6400 9.64 4T65-E 214 285 400 6400 9.64/10.16 4T80-E 295 305 461 6800 10.43
from the looks of it, these numbers were generated by taking the most powerful engine they were attached to and referencing the highest GVWR as well.
no idea about the 3T40, but the 4T60 looks like it was based off of a TGP(maybe a 4.9 caddy?), the 4T60E is refering to the 1996 model that was attached to a L67, the 65E also looks like L67, and the 80E is obviously a N*.
now, the 4T40s biggest torque load was 190 lb/ft, and the 4T45 saw 205 lb/ft, with i think 4000 and 4500 lb GVWR respectively.
i don't see what's so great about the 4T4x series.

Jeff at EP supposedly had a 45e take 350whp with no problems. Whether it was his or a customers trans I don't have that information to add. He didn't make it an extreme build either from my understandings.Lifting my front wheels, one jack at a time.

i'm not saying it can't be done, but as per the vehicles/engines they were attached to from the factory, the 60E was hooked up to much more demanding applications than a 4T4x ever was. even the official naming of the transaxles implies that a 60E in an otherwise identical situation that it should withstand more abuse.
