there are two types of VSSs... one is the gear-driven type (no cable either!) and the other is the hall-effect like your celebrity has now... their signals are different..

see here is the two different VSSs and the differential for the hall-type VSS..

yeah i bought a 91 5spd from a 91 cavalier two years ago. it had the Plastic Slant cut gear drive ring.

bought a new hall effect ring for it and swapped them over. i found it odd that the 91 cavalier trans had that plastic gear reluctor ring and not the Steel Hall Effect ring.
so i ran the vin that was on the Trans. it is a 91 Z24 according to the vin.
my car is a 92 GT,

Is this what the VSS connector looked like externally?

What I was planning on doing was simply plugging the Celebrity's existing VSS plug into the electronic connection in this picture, and just blocking off or capping the cable connection. With the '90 Cav's LH0 3.1 being exactly the same as the LH0 3.1 found in my '90 Celebrity, both would require a VSS reading from the transaxle to operate the FI. I therefore figured I should have no problems running the speedo from this - the speedo gets it's reading from the computer in my '90 Celebrity.

And, as a point of interest, I saw an '89 Z24 in the wreckers the other day with this same type of dual-connection connector. I was told by one of the mechanics at a dealership up past Toronto (who, coincidentally, owns a 2-door factory 5-speed 2.8L Celebrity) that the dual-connector was used during a transitional period while some speedos still used the cable drives, while the computers were requiring the VSS signal.

that most likely won't work because of the incompatability between the two VSS styles... that one is the gear-driven kind... your speedometer will read REALLY low... although you can just reprogram the computer to fix it...
