stub axle? why not just buy another axle from Advance? they should be a little under $100....

Advance doesn't make them and neither does GM anymore.

I am wondering...is it possible to find another CV joint from some other application that has the right spline and length, and just get rid of the stub shaft altogether? It would be a real pain in the butt to find it, but it might be possible. I always thought that stub shaft was a hoakey setup.

HAHAHA!!! That pic is from when my 91 blew an axle, lmao. I sent that pic to Michael showing him what I was talking about and was asking about having one made from the machine shop where he has his other metal parts done, lol. I was also told (by Brian I think) that the 4t60E drivers side axle will work in place of a 284 axle w/ the stub shaft/adapter.

The 284 uses 2 drivers side 4T60E axels. Unfortunately the passenger side 4t60E inner joint will not work on the drivers side 284.

BTW, I think I got the pic from Ben, really had no idea who's it was.
