I honestly dont really remember because it was so long ago, but I believe i tried to manually activate the TCC on a 440T4 and on a 4T60-E and it would not engage in the lower 2 gears. Mechanically the circuit was blocked. I think you can do it on a 3T40 and the rear drivers though.

Is this noise comming from the driver side you figure? what kind of car is this?

yes it was a almost constant noise when in gear drive stopped. well it went good today got the moter out and the tranny with it im shure im nowhere near as fast as some of you guys though. i just try and keep it somewhat orderly. about a day and half to get it all out. I think that i may have found A tourque converter that had a stall speed of 1095 rpm compared to like 800 rpm or so stock dont quote me on those numbers im shure im off but my question is, is the extra stall speed going to kill my MPG or will it be ok was looking into the higher stall tourque converter and maybe a B&M shift kit. Im not looking to make a dragster just hoping to make it a little better. there wasnt much of a price diffrence in the diffrent stall speeds but the lower speed stall was a little more i dont care what one i just want it all to work right. thanks everyone for your time

according to GM docs, it stalls out to 1630 RPM, which looks to be the second lowest stall speed used in 4T60Es.

how much higher are you looking to go?

            for 1995 4T60Es at least, there is 1825, 1897, 2060, 2095, and 2363.

A higher stall will impact fuel economy a little in stop/go traffic. There won't be any change to highway mpg.

Looking at your numbers i know that the parts guy was looking at the wrong catagory now. 1630 to 1825 i dont know just wanted a little extra but wanted to stay close to stock. didnt want to have to modify a bunch of other stuff to make it work either. Just a little more giddyup thats all. Where do you go robertistar to find all of these diffrent TC at would like to check them out thanks..

you can make your own actually... there is a decent write-up on w-body.com using washers to shim the accumulators for firmer shifts.

i checked that site out i think i found the right one about shiming the accumulaters have you or anyone done this type shift kit. Befor i read that i was under the assumption that you had to drill something out this was mentioned later in that same thread but didnt go into great detail on it.i guess either one would get the job done. but would like to find a B&M kit maybe. I got the moter and trans all cleaned up today wow what a greasy 15 year mess i can actualy find the bolts now and also got the harmonic balacer off hopefully get the tranny separated tomorro after work just going to try to do the minimum work to get it going want to get it back on the road asap. For now im going with a TC and a shift kit for now as far as the tranny goes lower gaskets and a timming set for the engine just did top end 1 year ago. I know that i probably should change out more parts while its out but would like to get it going again. Thanks again robertisaar and everyone else that was some good info

drilled out checkballs are one way of changing how a trans acts, but these do the same thing with minimal cost and time, it's literally only a few minutes longer than just changing the trans filter.

update got the tourque converter out . now according to the book you turn the second set of splines in the tourque converter and there should be no noise and it sould turn freely no binding clockwise but slight resistance counter clockwise. Mine made a grinding noise. for 1/4 turn then free turn alittle then grind 1/4 turn more and it would also turn i thought freely in both directions no diffrence either way. this was the test for the stater inside the TC accordind to haynes manual anyway FWIW. I did not check for TC endplay. this tranny was supposed to be rebuilt 5-6 years ago the tourque converter looked like it was stock original it had GM40 stamped on it and where a sticker was is rubbed off . Is this a common practice in a tranny shop to reuse the same TC probably hard to say. anyway what do you guys think is there another way to check the tourque converter do i sound like im on the right path anyway. And if its that easy to shim the accumulatters I will got that route
