  • 2.8 iron head Chevy v6 bolt to 3.1 in 93 Pontiac Trans ?

Putting new 2.8 in 93 3.1 v6 van : both iron head , engines look identical but my 2.8 might be externally balance if that makes a difference . New 2.8 came with its own crank balancer and rear flexplate . Will this work? please help , thanks Mike

Im guessing the 3.1 v6 van is the Lumina. that is a fwd van. Now on that 2.8....what vehicle did it come from?...if its form a fwd...then you shouldn't have a problem...but if its from a RWD car like the Camaro or S10...then you got problems. The problem is the STARTER LOCATION. FWD have it on the Left side (oil filter side)and the RWD have it on the Right side. If you have to use it...you will have to tap for the starter holes.

Its got to be FWD ; I bought it to put in S10 but starter is in wrong side and there wasnt and room to drill on the opposite side . So I found a FWD vehicle and looking at it everything matches up externally. The van is a Pontiac but same as a Lumina van. I think Im lucky that they carried the iron head onto the van platform and didnt go with the aluminum head 3.1. I think it will work but would like to be sure. you know like computer etc. thanks Mike
