  • 4t65e overhaul?

I will be taking out my trans out of my 04 monte carlo (3400 OHV) This will be my first overhaul of a transmission other than in school. What tips / upgrades should i be aware of for this 4t65e transmission?

You could check with a local trans shop to see if they are tearing one down and will let you observe to see what goes wrong with them.

If you ain't rock and roll, you must be driving a Honda

I'd been following a rebuild thread a while ago that mentioned tripleedgeperformance.com -- and on their web site you will find he mentions the sun gear can sometimes be a problem; bushings though it varies which are OK & which are worn. The torrington bearing has shown up in pieces on at least one thread on this site.

Anyway, I bought a hardened hub, solenoids and drive shaft seals from Triple Edge and was happy with the service & results.

yea drive shaft seals seem to go on all of them. ive seen the hardened hub for slightly cheaper so i may go elsewhere for that, although definitely a worthwhile upgrade

4T65-E's are too bad with hard parts... I would consider a new drive chain/ chains, 4th clutch hub updated, new thrust washers(which should be in the rebuild kit), SONNAX final drive sun gear if you can get one, new oil pump drive shaft with bearing, new soleniods and sensor/ switch array from GM/ACDelco only, and a Trans-Go shift kit if you can find one.
