  • Trans. problem--P0742 Code...erratic shifting @ 2,700rpm

Ok, I have this little transmission problem... from 2,700rpm and up, it shifts erratically back and forth between the 2 gears (i.e. will shift @ 2,700rpm to about 3,000rpm or so) continuously while holding a steady throttle angle; until I let off the gas/drop down in rpm in which case it shifts normally again. However it does shift quite quickly--I think too quickly--when going from a stop and slowly accelerating. I've had the trans. rebuilt about a year ago (about 92 or 93,000miles on the car), and he did put a shift kit/shift "improver" kit in it, but I don't think that's the problem. Has anyone else had this problem??? What do I have to do to fix it?? There's 122,000miles on the car right now (yea, I drive a lot ). Please respond if you know of anyway to help--I don't really feel like spending another $1,500 on another trans.... rebuild....Thanks!!! ~Nathan (my96gtp@aol.com)

Sounds like your TCC PWM solonoid is flaking out. My moms 97 Buick was doing the same thing, I just removed that wire from the tranny plug. You will have a constant SES code, you may be able to wire in a high wattage resistor to fool the PCM.
