  • damn shifter cables.......WTF

Ok, I'm ranting bout shifter cables. The ones I got from a bone yard this weekend are not the right ones. They wont fit the shifter or tranny. So this got me thinking, these are obsolete in the dealers, push-pull want some to duplicate, but without the right ones in hand, whats there to duplicate?? So whats our options?? Does anyone have a set laying around, even if they were shiznit, can send to Push-Pull and get them to duplicate the right cables?? Someone??

Now, about 3 months ago, in the freaking cold here in fla, my friends 1993 3000gt VR4 busted his shift cables, he went to the dealer, and they had them, 200 bones for both, and his tranny is a getrag. I grabbed the old set last week, the busted ones, and they fit the tranny, not my shifter. So I bought the ebay item that had a custom short throw shifter and new cables from a 3000GT VR4, gonna see if it works. Wish me luck, this is the only thing stopping me from driving the car. And I'll report on the cables as soon as I mount the shifter..

i modded my 99z24 cables to work. needed to grind the bracket a lil and make an extention. overkillengineringmotersports.com sells a bracket and extention already made. its a bit of work but if all else fails.

I tried to get beretta guys interested in pushing some cable guys but they all just gave up. Best of luck to you. But there ARE push/pull cable makers out there that will do custom stuff.

Yeah, we were looking at converting the ends, apparently they unbolt from the tranny side linkage. Now I got to go back and see if I can pull these bolted parts off the levers and grab the shifter itself. Will try tomarrow. Does anyone know if the newer cables are still available thru the GM dealers?? Might look to buy a set or 2 if this works for back-up's incase these cant handle the abuse.

Well, here they are, the 1995 VR4 short throw shifter and cables. The first pic is the mitsu shifter side by side with a 1995 gagt that had the HO quad and 5-speed. I will have to re-drill 2 holes to mount this. The second pic is showing the differance in the cables thickness. The mitsu cables are way thicker than the GM's cables. The mitsu's shifter is also smoother and a better feel thru the movements. The third pic shows the mitsu's cable ends that go to the tranny. I disconnected the pins to show how they fit, a perfect fit. I am going to make an adjustable bracket to be able to fine tune the shifter cable mounting location on the tranny.
