  • F40 and 3900 tranny questions

This is both a engine and transmission question

Hey guys I have a 2006 g6, I got a 2007 3900 outta an impala and I have a f40 6spd transmission... Im trying to find out what or were to get a flywheel and clutch thats not a dual mass... And preferably an aluminum flywheel for it either aftermarket or oem setup...

It's getting turbo'd so needs to be able to stand up to good pressure... In any-ones opinion think there's something else that should be done to the transmission to hold to about 15 pounds of boost to make sure that it will hold??

I'm trying to look into that tranny now. But I have some questions also, first of all, that tranny from what I understand was used in only pontiacs and saab's right. Well now neither of them are around. So do we go to the Chevy dealers to get parts?? Also, since the 3500 and 3900 VVT motors are 60 degree engines, couldnt we use the factory style flywheel?? Are there aftermarket clutches available for this tranny?? Getting it to fit in our cars is the easy part, but I havent found any info about parts availability on these. I see them alot for sale in the wreaking yards. If the v8archie.com thicker flywheel is the only way to get a good clutch between the engine and tranny, so be it.

Heres another question I have regarding the getrag manual trannys. Alot of imports use either ZF trannies or Getrag trannies, I never hear any of them question the ability of the tranny to handle power.. But most seem to mod their trannies with a cryo treated input shaft along with LSD's, maybe even cryo the gears. So that might be all we can do.. I've personally seen a VR4 with the 6-speed Getrag dyno at 600HP, the thing lite up all 4 wheels. Hasnt had a problem in 2 years boosted to 20psi....
