By the way, I said "mostly the same", of course they are different transmissions with different load capabilities. In any case, that is just hilarious, "275HP=OFF", tuner humor . . . . I'm gonna be snickering about that one all day :-)

If you ain't rock and roll, you must be driving a Honda

I'm looking for another transmission right now. Currently have 4T45E and mainly just looking for a stock replacement. I believe they used these in the G6 GT for the first two years or something(which I could get with low mileage), but the part I'm wondering about is will the electronics plug right up on it and is the case identical. Any help is appreciated.

checked out the link and it seems like engineered performance is the way to go. they are slow at responding to emails though but ive heard lots of good things. but i always hate having them build something up that i can do myself because then im paying more for something i can do on my own. know what i mean? so i was hoping there would be a site or something that sells 4t4Xe build up kits.

and does anything know anything about B&M shifters. do they have one that would work with my car or one like it. and does anyone know how they work. because i really dont see a difference between manually shifting with my current automatic shifter assembly and shifting with a B&M automatic shifter. seems like the same thing to me. idk how it could do it safely in an auto.

If it's a ratchet shifter, you put it all the way down, then each time you hit it from behind it will go up a gear. Manually shifting your you could go past the gear you want to be in to the one after. A ratchet shifter prevents that, but is probably more geared towards the real high performance cars that have a manual valve body in their auto. A manual valve body is an auto, but is manually shifted with the shifter. What ever gear you select with the shifter is the gear you are in regardless of speed/rpm.

so what your saying is it's not really for me? is it safe to manually shift an auto car if the transmission is built up? once i get my hp tuner and adjust shift maps there wont really be a need to manually shift but im just wondering. im looking for as much manual control over my gears as possible is what im trying to say. and i liked the idea of a B&M shifter because it seemed like it could do it safely but idk..ive always been told dont shift an automatic so it confused me.

also..i think this was already covered but i forget. apart from the 4t40 and 45 e..what other transmission (if any) bolt right up to the 3400 engine and the engine mounts on a nbody?

It's safe to manually shift a stock auto, so yeah, it's safe to manually shift a built trans. Ratchet shifters are basically to take the error of going up 2 gears instead of one (probably more so for a trans with a manual valve body). That and they do look cool in old muscle cars.

oh ok gotcha. so its overkill for my application pretty much.

                      found this: http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/14006APW.html

is that a performance build kit. is that everything that i would need?

I've never rebuilt an auto, but I would think that's a stock rebuild kit.

goddamnit! wheres the performance stuff! i should probably rebuild it anyway if it has a lot of miles. but im looking for stronger parts. and a place to get a good LSD if that would help a good amount.

Check the Raybestos catalog, or give them a call.

Go check out GAGT.com , as I know there are several rebuild threads over there, as that is the only transmissions available in the GAGTs.

i contacted the member kitt on gagt who was selling his grand am which i noticed had 3.91 fdr which obviously wasnt stock..so i asked him how he got that and he said this:

"The gear ratio on the GAGT was already 3.29 vs the 3.07 that the SE and malibu had. So we took a newer malibu sproket set that was 3.49 and matched it to the 3.29 final gear set and it came out to be 3.91.

The LSD is made by Engineered Performance in Atlanta where I live. He makes them one at a time and prettymuch the only one who makes them. Search that place and see if he can make one for you.

I also got Raybestos Blue clutch packs to help the tranny handle the 300+ ft-lbs of tq i had."

so what gears out of what cars can i mix and match to get 3.71 ish..
