I need call a trans place first to see of the stage one kit they offer is the raybestos one, then I can get up a full list of the parts needed and the place to buy them from. I have our season opener race tomorrow so hopefully I'll get that info up on Monday.

A84652A 1-2 Roller 1996-up (Factory one typically lasts just fine.)
Now everything that has been done to my trans has been done in an odd fashion…
I first purchased a Deluxe rebuild kit from Northern Auto which included all the bonded pistons for the apply clutches, two bands, and more, Part Number #84008EA… The piston are not always needed since they don’t wear out that often and most of the apply pistons have lip seals which come in the soft kit. Also when I purchased this full kit it contained the full bushing kit so I did not have to purchase this separate, I listed all the items separate above because if you buy a full kit you waste money on a set of clutches you won’t use. I didn’t do the math, but if you get a full kit that comes with steels and bushings pistons, and bands (if noted) then you may save some money over buying all individual. I only recently did the Stage 1 kit from Level 10 where I'm replacing all the clutches and steels, and replacing my bands since I found a burnt one, and also putting in all new seals since I'm in there, I'm leaving the bushings alone since they look just fine.
I hope to get some pics up later.

Few questions.... My Mechanic is rebuilding the trans (GM Tec for 15+ years.... he has rebuilt about a bazillion of these 4T60's).. Sorry for the retarded Newb Tranny questions.. I just want to make sure i get the list of things i want replaced with non stock '95 parts is correct.
Valves: are these items that are normally service/replaced when rebuilding. Are the parts you listed stock replacement parts or different in some way?
Hard Parts: Are the parts you listed stock replacement parts or different in some way? I see the 2nd part you listed is "Hardend" so i assume its stronger then stock, and the 1st part is listed for 96-99 are they different then the 95 and prior...
Clutches: WIT and Raybestos are the same parts or should i get them from Raybestos? Whats the Zpak?
Steels: I assume i should get them when i order the clutches? anything special about these steels?
Kits: Worth getting?
Rebuild kit: the deuxe kit includes steels and front band, will these steels be fine or should i get the other steels?
Thrust washer kit and Misc items, Bushing, Bands: assume these are all just standard parts and my mechanic will know to replace them when he rebuilds?
Sprags: Self expanitory..
Thanks for your help...Shane "RedZMonte"

Ok, I'll try to answer all of those.
Valves: They are all stock replacement but improved upon... Only one that MAY need work and a different valve is the TCC one, if its badly worn they make a reamer kit and oversized valve for it. Also these are NOT typically replaced.
Hard parts: These are stock replacement parts yes, and both should be of a better quality than the original OEM. the 1 part listed as 96-99 yes is different than the older, with a 96+ the roller bearing for the axle shaft is ON the shaft itself, for the 95 and older there is a pressed in roller bearing inside the 4th clutch hub, both are offered in stronger versions, you would want the older one since I'm sure your splines are worn. Also on Bulkpart PN#A84570A 83-95
Clutches: WIT and Raybestos I'm assuming are the same... I had not received a reply from them, but since Raybestos lists their part number under the same line labeled as their stage 1 kit, I can only assume its Raybestos clutches with a WIT specific number just for inventory purposes. The Zpak is a special 3rd gear only clutch pack that they sell... its supposed to be for very high horsepower applications. You can mix that in with the stage 1 kit by just leaving out all the third gear clutches and using the Zpak in its place. I was going to originally do a the Blue input pack, a stage 1 second pack, and a 3rd Zpak and a 4th Stage 1, but when I realized how much that was going to cost I figured I would try the stage 1 setup first... THEN upgrade later if even necessary.
Steels: Yes you will need to get them when ordering clutches... Unless you buy a full deluxe rebuild kit, or one that lists it as coming with steels. This whole list is of stuff that I'm using in my trans, not necessarily what every person needs. I had to argue with Level 10 to have them send me a set of steels and all bands since I thought their price for the kit was insanely high for not including those items.
Kits: YES GET THIS KIT! You want to install this on ANY 4t60e you rebuild, It will help prevent some of its big flaws. It is only ~$60
Rebuild Kit: Yes these steels will probably be just fine, just remember the Deluxe kit comes with a set of stock replacement clutches too, so your kinda over buying... unless price wise it works out cheaper to get this full kit plus just the stage 1 fiber kit and sub those in.
Thrust washer Kit: Yes these are typically replaced in any rebuild since they come with most of the full rebuild kits. Some people will only replace the worn ones too, but I do all depending on age of the trans.
Good luck and I hope your mechanic is a good one

Thanks man! that helps clarify my questions. I wonder if i would need the 3rd gear Zpak, or if its overkill even for my turbo setup..? my tranny guy is good, only guy i trust doing any work on my car. if something is wrong he has allways made it right by me (not to often has it been returned unresoved).

Hardened sun gear I'm not sure... I think 4t65e diffs are the same so if they make a hardened 65e one then I think you could get one of those, but I haven't seen a destroyed sun gear yet... It took loose parts in my diff housing to chip a tooth off... lol.Last edited by 3400-95-Modified; 04-16-2010, 02:54 PM.

Here is a 4T60-E hard final drive sun gear (about 10 pages down... near the end) bit is only for the 30 tooth version (3.33 Gear)... I don't know what mine is 30 tooth, 34 tooth?.... Anyone?
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/alto_2.htm
"Upon rebuilding the 4T60 transmissions the final drive sun gear is often found damaged. The helical gear teeth are often pitted and spalled under normal operation. This damage can be the result of overstressing, poor lubrication, or incorrect hardness depth. If the damaged sun gear is not replaced, the planet gears will also become damaged and the entire planetary assembly will need to be replaced. There are three OEM gear ratios: 2.84 (38-teeth), 3.06 (34-teeth), 3.33 (30 teeth). This gear is for the more popular 3.33 (30-teeth) applications only.
This replacement final drive gear is made from ultra-high strength alloy steel hardened to a depth appropriate to withstand high tooth loads. Teeth are crowned to improve lubrication and longevity. This is truly a better quality gear than the OEM gear at an aftermarket price. Cost $17.00"Shane "RedZMonte"

What is the code on your trans? you may have a 3.29 diff, which in that case the sun gear cut angle and pitch is much different and that alone might have solved and issue that these other non fine pitch gears had... the 2.84 3.06 and 3.33
They went back and forth if your not familiar with it.
94 and older were the regular cut, regular pitch.
in some 95s, not all they introduced a new group of reverse cut, fine pitch diffs
and in most 96's but once again not all they took the same group of diffs and made them regular cut again but kept the fine pitch
the straggles of both years 95 and 96 use the 94 and older style setup, there are three configurations in my book for 97 that used the 94 and older gear's... 98 and 99 have none listed.
Its been like that up till the end, and into the 65e's With these changes the final drive carrier was also updated to a different gear to match, And then in 96 they introduced the new 1-2 roller with the inner cam, vs the outer one. This also changed the final drive ring gear to have different oil holes on the shaft.Last edited by 3400-95-Modified; 04-16-2010, 03:03 PM.

I thought all the DOHC trans had the same... 3.29 rings a bell but i have to check.. I did F Up the stock diff (long story....... Spinning on ice..... Hooked up.... No mas bueno) so i had a spare diff from my '92 when i did the L67 swap, so IIRC im running a '92 Z34 diff..
