  • Dumb question o the day !?!?

Im sure somewhere on this post is the transmission service info for the 2001 malibu. Re: GM's so called "never needs service" auto trans. I am sure it is just Synthetic ATF, and of coarse GM says lets get rid of the dipstick so the dumb "dipstick" owners wont mess with it and have to bring it to a dealer if you accually wanted it serviced.....

Ok enough of my whining Does the trans take the normal filter in pan and synthetic fluid GM/ALLISON C4 Castrol Transynd? And the next big dumb question of the day since there is no "dipstick" how much does one refill on a basic filter/fluid service?

    Thanks Gents.

    PITA design from GM...

that should give you a good idea of what to do...

i imagine the filter is in the pan as well...

EDIT: suggested fluid is DEXRON III though i would use VI if i could afford it...
1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

use synthetic! and make sure the car is level. for filling it its kind of like putting oil in the bottom end of an out board motor, you fill it with fluid till it comes out the fill bolt hole in the bottom. you'll have to raise the car about a foot off the ground, and its easier to get a person to help you, basically to tell youwhen the fluid is start to come out, Then, spend 15 seconds in each gear and check fluid again.
