  • 99-05 GA V6: 5 spd swap

I'll start by warning everyone, this thing isn't done yet. Basically, the hold-up is my recent lack of access to a welder. Got a good bit of sh*t worked out tho, the axles and shifter are hooked up and can be put into any gear.

First things first, here's the car. As you can see, it's been ripped to shreds.

Didn't start taking pics until a good ways through this, sorry guys. If you want to use a Getrag 282 (strong ass trans, can handle 500+ hp), make sure to look for the external slave. They can be found in like 87-92 Cavi/Beretta. Maybe others...

You'll need to combine the Beretta axle with the GA axle. I've heard Fiero axles work too.

Here's what needs to be installed onto the GA axle. The trans requires a male shaft on the driver side. Basically just the inner CV cup was installed onto the GA axle. It fits beautifully, and I even used a new boot w/ fresh grease.

On the left, a 97 Cavi shifter. On the right, a 00+ J/99-05 N-body shifter.

The 97 shifter is the one I used because the linkage ends fit right onto the shift brackets on trans.

Had to modify the cable brackets so they would be staggered. Remember, the shifter and linkage came from a 97 Cavalier. The two pieces are chopped up bits of the 2 seperate trans/linkage brackets; 97 cavi, 88 beretta bracket that came with trans.

Here's where the stock auto shift cable ran through the firewall, in the pass. side.

Sorry again for the low quality pic that doesn't even show the hole. But you can tell where it has to go. *This is required due to the shorter manual cables.* Oh yea, the gas pedal wasn't there at the moment I took this pic either.

Ok, Ill come back and edit this to add more pics. Daddy duties are called for ATM!
